When it comes to singing, Rufus should refrain

I’ve followed this strip for years and I’m about done. Even when it isn’t these annoying characters, it’s the other annoying characters. The more endearing characters are in the nursing home.

Also seems that the joke in every strip is how irritating a character is to other characters, be it Rufus or Slim, and that ain’t what Gasoline Alley used to be like.

So long. And let me help you – yeah, you won’t miss me, or (sarcastically) it won’t be the same without me, blah blah blah.

I think what we need is for Joel to arrive. I suspect he has a pretty good voice.

Know what would be pretty cool? If some enterprising cartoonist who has a love of the old newspaper strip styles started a series called something like “The Old Alley.” Time could be frozen or messed around with, but people like Doc, Avery, Walt, Phyllis and little Skeez would pop in and out of frame on a regular basis. GA could just go on as the Joel & Rufus/ Slim & Clovia strip that it now is. Whoever the ultimate owner of GA is would certainly benefit. The times they most assuredly are a-changin’, but it seems that there is a very real market for something like that.

A very old joke among musicians. Perfect pitch is when you toss a banjo in the dumpster and it lands squarely on top of the accordion.

It seems all the folks who used to gripe about Alley Oop have moved over to Gasoline Alley.

It really is a shame that Jim has resorted to the lame jokes (characters getting on each other nerves, etc.) when the strip has the same great potential for entertainment that it always had. There are so many great character (as MJ Emigh has pointed out) in this strip to build stories around. Why confine the humor to how simple minded a certain two characters (Slim & Rufus) can be?

You know, if you’re here expecting anything more than good old corn-pone humor you might be in the wrong place. You’re welcome to stay, but keep the critique good natured.
