Good thing, since she evidently left Walt for dead.

Too bad about Walt.

Don’t worry. We’ll find out what happened to him in, oh… about three months.

Walt died. And it took him long enough, you know?
Ravenswing said, 29 days ago
Yeah, poor Walt’s already the oldest man in the United States, and there are only three other WWI vets alive anywhere in the world.

Walt may have survived unsupervised for the hour or so that Gertie has been away from his side. I’ve heard of cases like that. But if you others are right, at least he had a good long run.

I hope Gertie will be happy with her new job.
I hope it pays more than her old one. I’ve heard that caregivers are among the most underpaid people in the country.

She has to choose between remaining with Mr. Walt or dancing in Byrd’s show? Oh what a choice.

Well, I wouldn’t call it exactly DANCING!
EarlWash said, 28 days ago
Maybe not professional dancing, but it was probably the best workout she had in a very long time. If she accepts the offer, it will be an excellent choice at least for her physical well being.

Yes!!,..hopefully byrdie and gertie will go on the road and that’ll be the last we see of these two porkers!! Now,…how to get rid of that other nincompoop, Slim.

Since a number of people from Corky’s Diner were in the audience and they knew about Walt’s mental condition, he might be just fine and they could have gotten him a seat at a different location in the theater.

I for one have enjoyed this story line. Gertie should have realize when she turned Byrd down he wouldn’t have a concert ticket for her. I got behind on gocomis and read past comments.
jtpozenel said, 28 days ago
If Byrd would just read the strip everyday, she wouldn’t have to fill him in on all the details.

There be three [things which] are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not: The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid. Proverbs 30:18-19

“Mr. Walt got separated from me and I was backstage looking for him” …wotta dingbat…
BlitzMcD said, 28 days ago
Gertie knows how to turn a phrase to her advantage. Thankfully, it seems as though the good Professor Byrd is astute enough to realize that.
In the meantime, the best thing Walt could do is seek a replacement for Gertie…..
Joe Allen Doty said, 28 days ago
Actually, the person who assigned Gertie to be a caregiver for Walt should find a replacement for her.
While Walt might have hired her himself, considering his memory problems, I think that an agency or his children hired her.

Poor Gertie has a real Karl Malden thing going in that 2nd panel.
Who is onstage now that the star is chatting with Gertie? Where are we?
