Wow! I love the fantastic art in the first panel and so much in detail.
As for Walt, he is probably sound asleep and missed the whole show of Gertie and the dancers. Probably doesn’t want to be disturbed either.
I am sooooooooooo happy to see this storyline. It keeps getting better and better and better.

Tomorrow he tells her she doesn’t need a wig… he likes her just fiiine as she is.
Nice choice of architecture and decor to draw in to set the theater “stage”.

Lose the wig and show him you’re still the same Gertie.

…and then he’ll go onstage and sing/play Billy Joel’s “Just The Way You Are” and dedicate it to Gertie…

I posted this on Saturday in the comments to this strip.
When I lived in N. Hollywood and I went to the Rawhide C&W Club, Mike, the manager, said, “Joe, there’s something different about you and I can’t figure out what it is.”
I said, “Maybe it’s because I am not wearing a hat.”
Earl E. Byrd knew that Gertie was wearing a wig. The difference he’s trying to figure out is that she probably finally cares how she looks when she is dressed up.

I’m not sure who the “us” is that you’re referring to. I’ve found the story to be dragging for weeks now. Apparently it doesn’t take much to entertain some of “us”. Many of “us” await your next attack.

NNCU: You wonder why the people who like the current story line are “so abusive” to those who don’t (which by the way, I haven’t been up to this point). The problem is not that you are expressing an opinion we don’t agree with. It’s just that, having stated your opposition to the current storyline, you keep on repeating it over and over and over again without saying anything new. Yes, we get it that you prefer a different line. In fact we got it after you said it the first time. How about just waiting things out, as most of us do most of the time when the author of the comic goes off on an arc that doesn’t interest us.

Well me, I don’t always like what goes on in this strip. But it’s clear that Scancarellie is putting love, craft and passion into his work and that’s pretty rare in the comics these days. So as far as I’m concerned he can do what he wants and I’ll keep reading.

I love Mr. Scancarellie’s art work. The story line is ok…IT will end by and by.

I like this story arc. It’s both funny and touching, as well as beautifully drawn.
And to the complainers–nobody is forcing you to read it. Last I heard, this is STILL a free country.

So… when she straightens out the wig, her face turns into Mr. Walt’s? That’s some David Lynch shiz, right there..

NotNorman is right. We live in America. I have family fighting for our freedom of speech. I have done my military time as well. Just as we suggest that people who don’t like GA not read it, we also have the choice to not read negative comments.
NotNorman, my “new math” comment above was actually meant to express the fact that I just realized how torturous it must be waiting for something better to come along. Obviously you guys are here because you DO enjoy some element of GA and you’re just not happy with what’s going on now.
I’m sorry for being less than considerate in expressing my frustrations with everyone who hasn’t been enjoying the comic lately. It may annoy me, but you’re not really hurting anyone and you’re not resorting to vulgarities in anything you say. Thank you for that.

The story’s fine, the artwork’s great, Scancarelli’s a master of pen and ink, fine… the big problem with the story is Gertie. She’s a badly conceived character, two-dimensional and irritatingly stupid and obnoxious, even for a toon. Byrd, a more pleasant dude but about as much personality as a rubber ball. The core GA characters still ride on the strength of the original conceptions, but character creation and development are Scancarelli’s big weak spot. He’s a fine cartoonist, but he’s no writer. Look at the last pair, those unloveable, shallow twits Upton O. Goode and Ramona Lisa. Ridiculous. This is why readers pine for stories about the original cast. They’re the only characters who are still any good. And even they’d better start growing more 3-d personalities soon, because they’re fading into triteness too.
The slow pace of the strip was once justified because it took its time to highlight nuances of character, setting and plot, things that gave it real substance. That isn’t the case any more. Maybe Scancarelli should hire someone to write the stories. Someone who knows how.
Check out this old one, for example. Poetry.

I’m not saying it should be just like that again. But something of comparable intelligence and sensitivity? Please?

Ocean17 states the complaint without…grousing. Hope the comment reaches Mr. Scancarelli.
Many of the rest of us attack each other. I suggest we can all do better than this. Or else perhaps refrain from commenting just because we can.

Say what you will, this beats the metor story hands down. Hey, Dick Tracy beats the meteor story, come to think of it…

Hey, NotNorman, you can see Walt every day. Just look at the very top of the comic. He’s right over the comic just like April is above the “For Better or for Worse” strip. I miss her almost as much as I miss ol’ Walt.

Chinese water torture is the popular name for a method of water torture in which water is slowly dripped onto a person’s forehead, allegedly driving the victim insane. This form of torture was first described under a different name by Hippolytus de Marsiliis in Italy in the 16th century.

Exactly,..all the old guard are being forced out of this fine old strip. This new artist/writer is hijacking the strip. Why doesn’t he try to make it on his own, instead of destroying a great thing.

Definitely did not like the meteor arc. While I understand the complete insanity of sleep deprivation, that went beyond moral fiber. And besides, Slim doesn’t have enough energy to do much besides eat when he’s well-rested… organizing a meteor-strike was a real stretch for him.
