He gave Slim keys to the church? Better watch the offering plate!

Macushla, Slim may be many things, (i.e. glutton) but he’s not a thief. He probably does volunteer janitorial work for the church and that’s why he has keys.

This is worse than I expected, someone gave keys (plural!) to Slim? It’s hard to believe Clovia even lets him have keys to the garage. You’d think he’d just lose them, or put them in his mouth or something.

I’d like to share something with you all. There is a great weekly web comic called “Lovecraft is Missing”. If you’re into early 1900’s comics, movies and such (and why are you here if you’re not) I think you’ll enjoy it.

If you don’t like the comic you may still want to read the authors blog. This weeks post is about serial comic strips from about 1917 to 1950 or so. He discusses some of our favorites, such as Gasoline Alley, Dick Tracy and many others.

Tracy is described as “Tracy, his profile more like a hatchet’s than a man’s, is a character of some emotional depth.”

    Enjoy,

I expect and hope Slim will make a mess of it all, that some comedy might follow. When I was young, I disliked the characters like Gilligan, Barney Fife, and Doctor Smith. Later I came to appreciate their necessity.

Thanks, Dypak, I’ve looked at the links, and that is a good, though very brief historical overview.

I’m a fan of the photo-realistic strips of the ’50s and ’60s, and highly recommend the following: The Rise and Fall of the Photo-Realistic Newspaper Strip, 1946-1970 http://profmendez.tripod.com/index.html by Armando Mendez. There are detailed and beautifully illustrated articles on strips such as On Stage, Juliet Jones, Apt. 3-G, Modesty Blaise, and others.

“Oh, the pain, the pain, William.”

When I was a kid I always wondered why Jonathon Harris was always listed as a Special Guest Star. I wondered how in the world did he rate getting to be Special Guest Star. Later on I realized what they meant by “Special.”
