Oh no now she doesn’t know where he is. Why didn’t she tell him that she wasn’t ready to get married but they could still date?

You know he’ll be back. It’s just a question of when. ‘Got a feeling’ they’ll still get married someday. Remember the obstacles Clovia and Slim faced when they were trying to get married?

Did I miss something? Gertie’s pining for Earl, but she has not tried to see him or have any contact at all in days? Seems like Corky has a bit of an employee turnover problem. Earl probably quit to get himself an executive job so he could support Gertie properly. Gertie could now look for Earl where he performs. Did he vanish from there too?

I had the strangest feeling that Bird would not be working at the diner anymore when Gertie returned. I’m really hoping that this isn’t the ending of this arc. I’ll be missing the real good artwork and the plot equally so.
I’m afraid that now it will go back to the same-o, same-o. I was liking the new characters on here with the different scenery rather than Joel & Rufus’s junkyard or Clovia’s garage. Oh well, at least we won’t see anymore of the habitual complainers on here.

I was so impressed that someone mentioned Roy Clark. You know, before Roy Clark was famous, he turned up at a restaurant in Burlington, Colorado which was owned by some close friends of ours. Roy wanted to sing for room and board (they had a few hotel rooms above the restaurant which they rented out.) Our friends didn’t have the kind of customers who were used to being entertained during dinner - so they gave Roy a job as a waiter and - if he wanted to - when they didn’t need him to wait on tables - he could bring out his guitar and sing to his customers.

YEARS later - when Roy Clark made it big in Nashville, they had some big celebration at the Grand Old Opry and he sent our friends round trip tickets to come to Nashville. Then, during the celebration - Roy Clark got up on the stage and told the story about how these folks had let him sing in their restaurant back when he was hitch-hiking his way across the country to try to get to Nashville. Then he brought them up on the stage and sang one of their favorite songs for them.

Too bad the Gertie and Earl story doesn’t seem to be headed in that kind of a direction.

I agree with others who have found that the supposed “improvements” made by Go Comics to their comics pages have made those pages a LOT slower to load and more difficult to navigate all the way around!

Gertie will not give up easily. Maybe he’s at the Savoy! Run, Gertie!
