Watch out Walt, she’s going to grab it and destroy it before your eyes. That’s just the type of cruel woman she is…

No, wndrwrthg, I think the crisis Norman foresaw has passed. Like many great stories, there is conflict and then resolution. Wouldn’t it be boring if every strip read like the insides of those expensive Hallmark cards with all the flowers and lace? Jim manages to bring us the uplifting moment AFTER a roundabout route, making the arrival there that much sweeter! Touche, Jim!

See that “explore” tab near the top? If you click on it, GoComics will take you to an “explore” page. On that page is the following: “Find a comic by title, tag, category or try a suggestion from readers under Today’s Favorites or Shared Collections on this page.” If you click on the “tag” link in that sentence, you will see a page with a brief explanation of what a tag is. You will also be given a box in which you may enter keywords.

Tags are supposed to be used to help people find comics, not for commenting on what you think of the comic. You post your opinion of the comic in the “comment” box. That is what comments are for.

In tagging comics, let us use common sense, show respect for others in the community, and create useful tags. Let us not create tags contrary to the purpose of tags.

It is acceptable and helpful to add a tag this comic containing “Gertie.” But the tag “FIRE GERTIE” abuses the purpose of having tags. It is not helpful.

Usually when someone overreacts like Not Norman (if you’re not Norman, who are you?) it’s because something in his past has triggered an unpleasant memory. Maybe he has a “Gertie” in his past who hurt him somehow. I haven’t been reading this very long but she seems ok. Now she understands why the box means so much to Walt she will leave it alone.

It’s pretty clear where this story is leading! Early Bird and Gertie are a couple of financial predators after the fortune Walt built up when he was a partner in Wicker and Wallet Furniture in his younger days. Early’s goal is to absquatulate with Gertie and Walt’s money to a beach in Rio where he can sip Mai Tais and watch Gertie cavort on the beach in her string bikini! Have a care Walt, Gertie may also be a geriatrophile!!! And Wake Up Skeezix before it’s too late!!!!!

What Gertie really wants is a kiss from Walt! See how she’s reaching for him in the last panel? A textbook geriatrophile and she’s after his money too!!

Maybe “Not Norman…” is an elderly person who is being or was abused.

Remember back when you’d be listening to a record, and the needle would skip back and replay the same thing over and over and over. It might have been that the record was broken, or the needle wasn’t so sharp anymore. In either case, putting a nickel on the arm would sometimes solve it, enough to keep it from repeating anyway. I don’t know what made me think of that now!

Okay, now I believe Gertie is being sincere. Sometimes we can get so intent on getting organized and accomplishing something, we lose sight of our priorities.

Hey Jogger, I think it’s ok to use tags like ‘Fire Gertie’. While it’s not a pleasant idea it is at least one the tagger will remember. And that’s the point of the tag. It doesnt do any good if I can’t remember what it was for.
