    Quite true.

And we have our children and society look up to, and worship sports :icons" and gang banger “musicians.”

Yet for a couple days people are shocked that 19 great young souls died trying to save each other, and entire communities and no one, in the grand scheme of things, really gives a rip.

Can anybody tell me if this was an intentional fire or started by lighting strikes?

“…I hope, I think that the “worship” of sport “heroes” and so called musicians is, on the wane…”
    .
    That would be wonderful.

Unfortunately, they are worshipping politicians now instead.

God bless those guys and their families.

flake: the last fire in this area was in 1967, which meant a large buildup of fuels, especially heavy fuels, not just the fines. That increased the intensity of the fire, and probably meant that instead of quickly passing over their shelters, the fire moved hot and slow, increasing “danger”.

btw, “treehuggers” have long supported prescribed fire programs with control burns, real thinning in forest areas that isn’t just an excuse for clearcutting or commercial harvest.

Firefighting IS a dangerous job, which I did for decades. These men were well trained, and the reason they got caught in a change in this fire will be eventually revealed, long after the general public has forgotten their sacrifice made in defense of their neighbors.

We “in that community”, even after retirement ourselves, WILL remember them.

Thank you for making this a priority. What a great loss of wonderful firefighters!

Not the “tree huggers” of whom you despise so much, but the Global Warming causing longer droughts. Hotter, dryer it is inevitable. And also building in ares that burn periodically normally too are in error.
