This is a great cartoon and it speaks to the irresponsibility of American Voters BOTH REPUBLICAN AND DEMOCRAT.

The Democrats come right out and say it. We want to fleece the rich bastards to pay for the needs and wants of everyone else. I’m tired of being told that I’m not paying my fair share by a bunch of people who don’t pay anything.
I’m also tired of being told that my kids should have to do with less because somebody else irresponsibily had a bunch of kids and now refuses to take care of them.

The Republicans talk a good game of being for Smaller Government and Lower taxes and then they Fight tooth and nail to keep up an insane level of Military Spending. And don’t forget the time and government money they want to spend on making sure Gays don’t marry, Women don’t get an abortion, and adults can’t pursue happiness by smoking pot. But we can’t find money to support foodstamps?

Great cartoon. Varvel can’t rival the artwork of Michael Ramirez (who can?), but he can get the point across as well as anyone.

Wait. Where is it written that I HAVE to leave my children anything? Spending MY money is NOT equivalent to spending my children’s inheritance! I worked for my wealth, they need to work for theirs and not be dependent on me passed the age of 16!!

Funny the real picture is more about obfuscation than governance.
Look at the policies that were pushed through under the we have to keep our money ploy’s.
The rise in oil prices based on fears generated from crisis’s that never really materialized but the price increases never come back to pre-hype levels, the privatization of government services that never cost less and usually are nothing more than scandals in the making remember Enron?, the wars, military spending that rarely comes in at or under costs
The fear and loathing hype is as you mentioned is BS, the real impact of that hype is the fleecing of the American people, keeping the people pliable to be fleeced, undereducated to accept the fleecing as someone else’s fault and brainwashed to blame the other side at the drop of a hat if profits or schemes are threatened!
In the end those who complain most protecting the status quo they created to protect their greed for power and money are more important than the people who keep the economy running.
The Government in itself is not a for “Profit” industry it is manipulated by those who are!

Spend the inheritance quick before it gets eaten by inflation. The kids will pay with those inflated future dollars. The fools are the low interest Federal bond buyers. Many might be Chinese!

I earned my children’s inheritance and I can spend it.
    .
Congress did not earn my children’s wages and are thieves, that is the point of this toon.

When you refer to Congress you need to be a bit more specific; it’s the Senate that wants to spend like there is no tomorrow! Because the way this miscreant Obama and his loons in the Senate are spending right now, there may not be any future!

My in-laws are very well off. Once when my wife and I were trying to buy our first house they helped us with the down payment saying they’d rather see us enjoy it now than get it when they died. A little while later my mother in-law made another comment about spending their daughters’ inheritances. I told her it was their money, they earned they should get to enjoy it. I didn’t care if there was $1 or $1,000,000 left when they died, they should enjoy what they worked for and saved. She just looked at me, then I got a hug. I sincerely have the best mother-in-law I can imagine. She is still fugal, but she also does not deny herself the simple pleasures. Good for her.

As for the age of independence, I guess I believe that is when they graduate high school, not 16. But otherwise I agree with you.
