Now Yale is suing students because they’re defaulting.

NO.
One can save for college, get a job (GASP!!!!!) and work their way through college. Go to a community college for a few years getting the core classes out of the way. Go to in-state colleges instead of paying for others.
Dave Ramsey has a college program (for profit of course, he is a… a…. a…. capitalist!!!! Horror of horrors, someone advocating being debt free????)
Plus, many libs and others are so far in debt their kids suffer. No one teaches people about money, saving and retirement.
Getting through college debt free and with a degree that you will help you get a career is possible. Just don’t take any of earl’s classes that turn your brain to liberal mush or worse, become a Ted Rall revolutionary zombie!

Mostly agree, but the cost of going to school, like the cost of home ownership, vehicle purchase and most of all healthcare has far exceeded most families income gains.

The cost has gone up because of state “scholarships” for B students, and then every student is above average, so the money flows to the colleges. If there’s money in the pot, the colleges will take as much as they can get. But with no raise in 4 years, the money ain’t goin’ to me or most of the other employees. Buildings are popping up everywhere, though, because you can put someone’s name on a building for all to see.

States are cutting from the Univerisities budget. The baby boomers got pretty much free tuition, but screw the next generation, we want our lower taxes!

My daughter is a senior in college this year. No loans, no debts, no out of pocket expenses.
.
Yes, she is only a “B” student, but as the jerk says, that is enough to get the scholarships.
.
Not sure why he does not like hard work rewarded, but the system works very well for those inclined to study.

You can try to save for college. Mos can’t do it because college costs continue to rise higher and higher.

The lower taxes were a large part of why it is so much more costly to go to school. Low taxes, rise in costs.

My son is a veteran, back in school and paying his way with help from the “new” GI Bill. BUT! It IS important to note that even adjusted for inflation, his cost for one semester at a state “community college”, is more than my tuition (also on GI bill) for my entire four years to get my degree at a university! Yes, costs have soared, and tax support has declined drastically in most states.
But hey, who cares, who should pay any taxes? After all, who wants or needs education, that obviously is used only by “liberals”.

To quote the father of a kid who seriously needed reading glasses, after told by his ex-wife that the child was reading two grades below his level,:
“Well, I only got a seventh-grade education. Didn’t hurt me none.”
So, the child did not get glasses.
As far as college goes: now that we have Wikipedia, who needs college?

We are producing a generation of workers who are already pre-indebted! This society is seriously wrong in it’s choice’s of priorities.

“Not sure why he does not like hard work rewarded, but the system works very well for those inclined to study.”
I guess I’m the jerk, but you’re wrong in your assumptions.
As I said, the proliferation of “free” money has caused grade inflation, so that some HS students get Bs when they should get Cs. As Keillor said, everyone’s above average. When they get to college, they can’t hack it. Unless they also get their grades inflated in college, they end up on probation, and then flunk out. The college got the money for a few terms, and they have no problem flunking out a student, because there’s another student with more “free” money waiting for that place. (q.v. cannon fodder)
Your daughter apparently works hard to keep her grades up, and she deserves kudos. The system was meant to work for students like her, who are inclined to study. The need to keep students’ self-esteem high, and the lure of “free” money, has corrupted the system, however. The pot is running low, and the students who are supposed to get the money are now getting less, or they have to pay some of the fees, because those who (gasp) may not belong in college have laid claim to the money.

You’re wrong on both counts.

anybody stupid enough to go into debt to pay communists to indoctrinate you (or your kid) automatically fails the test.
