    Sadly not since 1945 have our brave men and women been risking their lives while they snuff out others to protect us. They have been used for other reasons. That and having to work with better paid mercenaries too. Something we rarely hear about.

    can we have 1 moment of silence tomorrow for all those that served? even those who were draft dodgers…dick cheney, rush, clinton, etc…very sad that 1% of us actually served.

    @vwdualnomand

    1972 was the last year of the draft. I was 285 and they stopped drafting at 150. Does that make me a draft dodger?

    It is Obama’s America. And Reagan’s America. And it is our America even when we sometimes make fools of ourselves in this forum. David Kenyon Webster in the cartoon and the veteran’s who post here have assured that it is OUR America. Please, none of us need say anything political in respect to this type of ’toon. It is more import that we honor the spirit of Memorial Day and not attach pettiness to it.

    Wow! Joe, you were 285 years old and they cut off at 150! OKay, I’ll give you that, Ima is 4.(Which is obvious. But that’s age AND I.Q.)

    No, josefw, you are not a draft dodger. You stayed here and took your chances. Vietnam was a million dollar experience that I wouldn’t pay five dollars for. We stuck our nose into a dictatorship to save it from communism. Politicians forced us to fight that war with one hand tied to one foot, yet we still won all the major battles. Nixon’s election rhetoric of a secret plan, read as Vietnamization, was nothing more than the abandonment of South Vietnam. 58,000 of us wound up dead for no discernible purpose The peaceniks here were placated and proud of themselves for ending that war but then came the killing fields and Cambodia’s Pol Pot. A few million more died. I ramble and this is not the cartoon that should have this kind of discourse attached to it. It is written for you to assuage guilt feelings you may have about not going (if you have them).

    BTW: I thank each and every Vet I come across. I also thank you Trout, your son & your friends (and their families) no longer with us for your/their service.

    Although we are oil and water sometimes,we have a common goal for our country and fellow countrymen. Live FREE, prosper, take care of those in need. In reality we are not that different, we just walked different paths to our destination.

    I do have some guilt and would have served if called. In truth I did not want to become a statistic, especially at the very end of VN.

    Thanks for your service M5, know that millions are honoring your service and commitment to the United States of America!

    ^I hope you DO understand I was joking. I seriously have NO problem with anyone who legitimately, through the luck of the draw, missed the “pleasure and opportunity” of being drafted and sent to war.

    It often IS the ability of friends to “agree to disagree” and go to the table to find BETTER solutions, that saves us all!

    Yes, I took it in the way it was intended. Thanks for checking.

    Ask the 1% what they are willing to sacrifice: your children, your money, your Social Security, your Medicare.
