Total waste of money. The Soviets would never nuke us. Iran would attack Israel before they would try to attack us. Let Israel pay for that boondoggle.

The military industrial complex has been out of control for so long that it requires a real jolt to get back to reality. The idea is to not waste billions for ineffective weapons that do nothing to promote national security. We should be exploring ways to control so called dirty bombs and nuclear proliferation. Also, assist countries in getting rid of mine fields that have been in place for decades, occasionally blowing up innocent civilians.

I must be sick, I am about ready to give Obama credit for the 3rd time today. Ok how about a pass until I see what shakes out. Domestically it is not that hard to work out. Always side with the individual and the state 1st and the government 2nd. But when it comes to Europe, there are so many players and so many ways to get the job done I do not know where to start? For starters I never understood this “shield”
I hope and pray Obama knows what he is doing and has something up his sleeve.

    BCS
Ideology has nothing to do with it. I use what I see and what I can work out to make my post. Domestically he is selling us out to big government because he knows no other way. That is what Marxist teachers, black power and community organizing is about. Group think give the government power to do what we can not. I am against all that.
But when it comes to Europe I am a bit ignorant and my guess is he is to. But he has the benefit of advisors that have been there and done that. Why do you think he has kept so many of W plans in place? It is not about politics it is about what works. Now we are trying a different angle. I am willing to see if it works. It is not like this “shield” was the be all to end all. So maybe there is a better way.

It’s just amazing that the only strength rightie commenters seem to recognize is aggression. Our aggression. Either we recognize everyone else as our enemy, or we’re not safe. Unless we “cage” Russia, we’re doomed. Our missile shield was the only thing keeping Russia from eating our kids’ ice cream? Ridiculous! One wonders how non-paranoid countries can survive, huh?

  19. harleyquinn

    harleyquinnGenius_badge said, 2 months ago

ezadeb, Russia is one of those love hate relationships. Just like a lot of our allies. “aggression” can take on many forms when it comes to our allies/enemy. Mutual assured destruction worked with them because they did not want to be blown up anymore then we do.
Now that brings me to my point of what to do with Islamic Muslim Fanatics who WANT WW 4,5 and 6 or what ever to bring about a new age where as they rule? I know lets’ rename it to a man made bad thing.
My hope is Obama is seemly playing checkers with the Middle Eastern nut jobs who want to kill us. All the while listening to those in the know in our government and is playing a good game of chess with Europe to help us deal with Middle East.
Do not be fooled Russia is a bear that has to be taken seriously. That Bear was never in a cage of our making. And that Bear will never be tamed by us. Nor should it be. Lets just hope it knows which part of the world it needs to stay in.

Believe what ever, I have not changed my tune one bit! Obama is a Poser who uses people. Why do you think he has to have so many Czars?
The difference in domestic and foreign is simple. Obama went out and got a lot of like minded lefties socialist whoes policies domestically would ruin our country if all of there wet dreams came to be. Foreign on the other hand he is stuck with a lot of left overs from Bush. Plus, and watch out I am giving the guy credit again, he is good at at two things. One everyone knows he can read a teleprompter better then anyone. And two he knows how to pick winners. but like I said he is ignorant in a lot of foreign matters. So hopefully he has gone out and found the best and the brightest strategic people he can. If his one gaol is to keep the USA safe in the world then I can get behind that even if right now I do not fully understand it.

HQ, the 32 czars under the current administration were, how to say this, continued from Bush. It’s not as if all 31 Bush czars were gone and 32 new ones appeared, right? We all understand that, right? And we all remember that most of them were approved by Congress, even by Republicans, under Bush, who somehow did not see it as a national problem until now. I bet YOU did, though, because if you didn’t have a problem 2 years ago with that many czars, and you do have a problem with that many of the same czars now, that would make you a kool-aid drinking hypocrite.

    As for you incomprehensible sentence:

“My hope is Obama is seemly playing checkers with the Middle Eastern nut jobs who want to kill us.”

Where to start? One, how ‘bout some proof of these checkers games? Two, are you hoping this is the case? WTF?

For someone who makes no sense at all about 90% of the time, you sure do have a lot of opinions!

Serious question. Can you see how frustrating it is to read harsh criticisms of Obama for naming czars when his predecessor did the same? It doesn’t make sense. On other toons, people have written that Obama was undermining our democracy and even “spitting on the Constitution” by naming czars. When some of us say, wait a minute, Bush did too, we’re sort of waiting for those posters to tell us why it was OK for Bush but not OK for Obama. No one has responded to that, other than offering weak, but Obama may do more, which avoids the question we’re asking.

OK ez I will make it easy for you. I hope he is doing a rope a dope on the middle east while working some sort of deal with Europe. Because his apology tour and renaming it to a man made bad thing are real stupid moves. And as I have stated his adviser are not stupid and he does listen. So if you on one hand the middle east going wait a minute we can exploit this new idiot they have put into power. But on the other hand Europe, some how, and I do not see it , but somehow it becomes more of a Europe problem. More pressure from Europe. This would be a good thing. You know the old let your enemy hit and miss and not really do anything but they think they are deal. then take out the threat with a hidden left hook under the chin. Something like that.

  32. churchillwasright

    churchillwasright said, 2 months ago

Maybe if the MSM would have done their job and reported how many Czars Bush had at the time, there might have been an uproar then. So either they didn’t, or it really didn’t exist. All we know now is that the Obama camp is saying Bush had X amount of Czars, too. And everybody accepts that. And that’s what the MSM reports. They don’t do any deep investigation if it’s true, who Bush’s Czars were, how many of Bush’s Czars were confirmed compared to Obama’s, nothing! All I’ve seen is a DNC ad claiming Bush had them too, and a bunch of lackeys trot out on TV and repeat what they saw in the ad. Has anybody seen any investigative reporting on this?

  33. ezdeb

    ezdeb said, 2 months ago

Church, that’s sort of the point. The msm didn’t cover the Bush czars because no one (dems) freaked out about it. Know why? Cuz Reagan appointed them, so did Poppy Bush, so did Clinton and so did Bush 43. Bush 43 DID expand the czar positions greatly, but no one freaked out. This is what makes the repub/right wing freakout now so perplexing. See? That’s the point.

You say maybe, since it wasn’t cause for concern when Bush did it, maybe it didn’t happen. Either the entire country has access to info you do not, or you are making an excuse. If you take the effort to simply google “meda coverage bush czars” or even just “bush czars”, you get a wealth of info, rightie and leftie, on the topic.

If all you’ve seen is a suspicious, partisan DNC ad claiming bush, um, utilized czars to a great degree (even appointing multiple czars to the same issue), you’ve been uninformed to the max.

What’s to investigate? No one is claiming any kind of coverup, and there’s no mystery at all. That’s why the outrage is obviously manufactured.

Besides, ahem, I think if the msm had “done their job” and reported bush’s czar mania, people like you would wonder why the msm had such a liberal bias and kept picking on a repub president…

Below is just one source picked from the first inquiry I googled. It lists Bush’s czars. Some were Reagan’s, that were carried over. Just like Obama has carried over Bush’s.

  34. churchillwasright

    churchillwasright said, 2 months ago

Thanks for the link. Now here’s what I found:

This list is repeated numerous times on the web.

There were 14 Czars that were called Bush Czars on the list. I started going down the list one by one, and except for the first one, the Gulf Coast Relief Czar, the next 7 that i could actually find info on all needed Senate confirmation. Then I found someone who had also looked at this list, and did all the work for me.
    http://tinyurl.com/mscnbv

So of all the Czars on this list, only one, possibly, doesn’t report to Congress.

Now I’m sure Bush may have had more, but my point originally was that no one in the media did what I started doing with the list I got, except this other guy.

And nobodys done this work with Obama’s Czars either.

But this is certain: the one Obama Czar that the whole world heard about, Van Jones, didn’t need Congressional Confirmation and never had to report to them.

So a true comparison between the two Presidents Czars hasn’t been done.

    ADDED LATER
Looking further into it, Found lots of sites complaining about Bush Czars, but none of them make any distinction between a Czar being appointed, needing confirmation or even being part of the Cabinet.

I can’t waste any more time on this. That’s what the fourth estate gets paid for.

  35. believecommonsense

    believecommonsenseGenius_badge said, 2 months ago

ezdeb, your point is well-taken that Bush naming czars didn’t bring out the fear and shouting that Obama’s doing the same thing has done. Yet another example of the constant double standards of the right-wing.

And the refrains saying the comparison doesn’t count because of this or that or them or whatever reminds me of the old saying “Who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes?”

I do agree with church that legitimate media should do a thorough fact-finding of the issue. Of course, if they did, the righties would scream about left-leaning MSM.

Reminds me yet again of Karl Rove’s statement that reality-based journalism is thing of the past because “we’re the empire now. We create reality.”

And for the willfully ignorant, it works.

  36. churchillwasright

    churchillwasright said, 2 months ago

^ No double standard. If most of Bush’s “Czars” had Congressional oversight, there’s nothing to complain about. So far, we don’t know anything about Obama’s” Czars”, except the one who was forced out was a card carrying Communist and had no Congressional oversight. It’s too late to demand the media go back and investigate Bush’s Czars, except as a comparison/companion piece to their investigation of what’s going on now. But don’t count on the media doing either. And this works for the willfully ignorant, Bush-did-it-too, it’s all BOOOSH’S fault crowd.

  37. ezdeb

    ezdeb said, 2 months ago

Raise your hand if you never want to hear the tired phrase “card carrying communist” ever again! Anyhoo…

It’s too late to demand the media go back and investigate Bush’s czars, church? Why? Sometimes, I swear, it’s amusing that for conservatives, history just did not exist until January 21, 2009. No one needs to investigate anything, church. All knowledge is available to you. If you want to set the facts in your mind, do so. Why would you continually say that it’s not possible to know what’s REALLY going on?

No investigation is necessary because nothing is hidden.

The crazed “hidden Obama agenda” meme is fixated on czars right now, and it is a manufactured outrage because nothing was hidden in the first place.

Soon the slavering over czar power will be replaced by something else, just as the czars replaced the birthers when that began to wane.

Will you then accept the new topic in your vague quest for a conspiracy? Please don’t let Glenn Beck, in his personal ambition to be more popular than Rush, persuade your intellect!

  38. churchillwasright

    churchillwasright said, 2 months ago

EZDEB: Do you have a problem with reading comprehension? Bush isn’t president anymore. If the media wants to go back and investigate Bush’s Czars, that would be a good thing to do to compare with Obama’s Csars. It would be informative, but the media will never do it, because they’re afraid of what they’d find. You want ME to do it?

The only other comment I can make about what you wrote, is that it is the LEFT’S latest talking point that has changed lately. They saw that “it’s BOOOOSH’s fault” was wearing thin, so now everything is racism. We’ll see how long that has legs.
