Um, is there a news story to this that I missed?

He’s saying that the make-work jobs that the stimulus is creating are rather pointless since our society seems to care less for taking care of our stuff.

^ I’m not sure that’s it … I don’t see anything in the toon that screams wasted stimulus dollars

I thought it might be local but I looked at his newspaper and didn’t see anything major concerning graffiti. There was a short article concerning anti- graffit efforts in Bloomington but it’s not earthshaking and it’s dated August 3rd.

So Varvel is saying we shouldn’t even try?
Very Republican, let the city go to pot as long as Wall Street is happy.

Maybe he’s saying that we haven’t raised our youth to respect the efforts of others.

Simply a note on the irrepressible creativity of youth, revolting against the drab, monochromatic sameness of society. Note the beauty of the sunrise against the grey buildings, reflecting the same conflicting juxtaposition of what is in the foreground.
(The Doc of science has an artistic soul and not EVERYTHING has to be reduced to politics.)

You are missing the Point. Cities across the nation have Problem with Graffiti, as Soon as City cleans it up, it’s backin same spot.

no
you guys are missing it
the arts (music, dance, theater, visuals) are underfunded, underappreciated, misunderstood, denegrated, but
because the arts, yes all of them, are like history books reflecting sociological, ecological and political climates of the times, if they are forgotton for a minute, they will just keep reappearing.
that’s my take

‘way to go, parker. (Now, as an artist, do you have the soul of a scientist?)

Throw these “artists” in jail and make their parents pay for it’s removal.

Some cities have encouraged graffiti as art. However, there is more than one type of graffiti. Tagging isn’t a good sign at all.
