    I’m sure he’ll receive a “Dear Jon” letter / email long before that!

    Sometimes, Garfield is totally superfluous in the “original” strip.

    If the whole point of this strip is to remove Garfield from Garfield, why do they then show it again with Garfield?

    And why does it seem that everybody is always posting things at 4 in the morning?

    Good Christ, what an outfit. He’ll be waiting a lot longer than 3 weeks.

    I’m sure she’ll love a decaying bouquet of daisies, Jon.

    Does anyone have the slightest idea what the point of Garfield Without Garfield is?

    @DickEstel

    a) To show how most Garfield strips are improved by removing him
    b) To show the crushing futility of Jon’s life

    They show the original strip so you can see how, or if it even changed it to take out Garfield. New strips usually become available around 11pm MST (which would be midnight Central time), so those in the Pacific and Mountain time zones can start commenting before going to bed – which may be in the wee hours where you are. And some people are just up in the night.

    I’ll attempt a slightly different explanation:

    If you assume that Garfield isn’t a real cat and is only a figment of Jon’s imagination (as could well be), then the strip would become a peek into Jon’s depressing, lonely and boring life. Also, of course, it would appear that he’s a little er… unhinged. The intro on the "official"gmg website (www.garfieldminusgarfield.net) says just about the same thing.

    Sometimes, the removal of Garfield gives the strip an entirely new meaning. Other times, not so much.

    Some of us are in other parts of the world. We’re at least 9.5 hours ahead of Eastern Time (US) here in India, so it’s really a mid-morning coffee break comment for me.

    Like the time they changed Garfield gluing Jon’s hand to his face to Jon gluing his own hand to his face?
