I take it counseling was not your first vocation, was it Jon? Come to think of it, what *do* you do for a living?

Way back in 1978, when we first met Jon and Garfield, this question was answered. Believe it or not, he’s a cartoonist. Hence, he works at home (which is why he’s always around for Garfield to mock.)

Actually Jon is right. Being a bit depressed (usually stemming from boredom or maybe something going wrong which may soon right itself) isn’t so bad but despair is something else. Utter hopeless despair is a different story. I’ll opt for the temporary depression over despair.

Fortunately, mental illness, such as depression, is no longer the stigma it used to be.
Nowadays, there are numerous medications to treat these disorders, which usually stem from a chemical imbalance in the brain.
    I take Celexa.

I wonder what cartoon Jon does? Davis?

I suspect Mr. Davis had to drop the “cartoonist” bit because, as Jon’s character developed, it quickly no longer seemed right for him. I don’t think I’d want to read any comic Jon did, except out of morbid curiosity.

So whatever work life Jon is supposed to have now, it’s never addressed in the strip. But it wouldn’t be hard to imagine him falling for all kinds of “work at home” scams. Maybe he got lucky and found one that worked for him.
