This is just strange, but I must admit, Jon just randomly saying “poof” is actually kind for funny for some reason

Grrrr I hate these Garfield Minus Garfield strips, but thought I’d check one out just to see what the fuss is about……..to be honest it makes no sense at all without Garfield

From the look of his hands, he got to second.
Edit: Jon has his “O” face going.

Some of these are rather surreal without Garfield. This one’s just lame. Jon going “poof” looks good tho’.

i saw some strips where it was garfield minus garfield speech instead of this implementation, it was a lot more enjoyable - at least jon’s talking to SOMEONE! (albeit a normal non-sentient cat)

That’s what you get for dating Clive, Jon. Dating your cat’s imaginary friend… Isn’t that unnatural or something?

Lame… they should have either left John’s 2nd speech balloon in or not used this strip.

Leave it to Garfield to burst Jon’s bubble. Let him imagine she actually has the ability to disappear rather than that she ditched him. I wonder if his outfit had anything to do with it. Probably.

Jon’s tiebow and suit look soooooooo ugliest! Ack! Why can’t he wear something fancy and chic suit or something to make him look vamp or whatever.

if he would do that it would not be jon like. it is beter with the words in the 2nd frame.

Why remove panel two’s balloon? It makes no sense.

Don’t look now Jon, but Clive’s gone invisible, too.

I just have to comment on this cartoon. While I’ll agree, the idea is kind of interesting to see a few cartoons like this…the novelty is over very quickly. Now, seeing this made into a strip is just plain idiotic. It’s sort of like the invention of a pet rock or mood ring. It has no staying power.
I just read the posts below…obviously this stupid idea is annoying to other people. Why don’t you just make this strip into “Garfield Minus Everything” and then there will be room to put something else. Syndicates….gimmicks last about as long as it takes to notice them and run the other way.

As usual, this would make more sense and look much better if they just did what it said on the label. Just take Garfield out. I don’t understand why they have such trouble grasping this. (You want someone to draw a black line and complete the balloon? I can do that.) And I think some of the people hating on the concept would like it better if the, let’s say artist, stuck to it.

No. After seeing a couple of these Garfield minue Garfields I have NO interest in seeing these. It’s a one gag idea. After that, it just isn’t funny. I won’t be back as this is not even worth the time to comment on it anymore.

I don’t think you understand. It’s not so much the comic strip that makes these funny, it’s the comments they elicit from the Peanuts gallery (Oops, wrong strip).

I’m not reading GMG for the strip itself, I’m reading it to see what smart remorks can be made from it, and make a few myself.

eardroppings, go ahead. You’ll surely not be missed. About the strip, it would work better with the second panel balloon, but man, Jon’s face on the third panel is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. In GMG, not in Garfield, I mean.

You people are idiots. This isn’t supposed to be funny at all. You’re analyzing it as a joke, but it’s not supposed to be a giggle funny comic.

As the website hosting it states, “Garfield Minus Garfield is a site dedicated to removing Garfield from the Garfield comic strips in order to reveal the existential angst of a certain young Mr. Jon Arbuckle. It is a journey deep into the mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness and depression in a quiet American suburb.”
