It's Garfield-as you've never seen him!
Come savor the existential adventures of Jon Arbuckle in Garfield Minus Garfield. Based on the phenomenon ignited by Dan Walsh's hilarious and wildly popular webcomic (beloved by The New York Times and The
Washington Post, and hailed as "inspired" by Garfield creator Jim Davis), Garfield Minus Garfield takes everyone's favorite fat cat out of the picture, leaving us with only the lonely ennui of Jon as he's left to voice thoughts about his own existence into an empty void.

To me…it makes no sense either way, but without Garfield it’s a waste of ink. He’s lying on the floor, so what?

With Garfield it makes sense and is quite funny but without him - I agree, waste of ink

Jon not happy with the spots on the ceiling?

why is he lying on the floor? he is pathetic for throwing this tantrum with or without a cute animal gag and that, I believe is the point.

People, people – remember, this strip is an experiment to see how Garfield strips come out if you remove Garfield. It doesn’t always have to make sense.
Actually, this one has the effect of making it look like Jon’s suddenly slid about a foot on the floor for no apparent reason!

This one is just plain dumb!

Maybe Garfield’s comment can shed some light as to why Jon’s just laying on the floor. Could it be he tried to block Garfield from the cookies and Garfield knocked him flat? Just another reminder of who’s the boss around there.

To me, looking at his crossed arms and the glower on his face and that he appears to be moving in the panels, it gives the illusion that Garfield has struck again. It is not the funny “ha,ha” type but it is amusing and as I have said before, those without Garfield have the feel of a bad student art film, just add FIN to the end of each one.

It looks like John is slowly inching himself across the floor on his back, the concentration on his face is intense. One or two more panels should have him completely out of the frame.

There is no reason why he is moving or how he is moving that’s what makes it funny

i think he was trying to prevent Garfield from getting to the cookie jar and Garfield showed him what he was made of. Then jon is lying on the floor thinking about ever doing it again and Garfield got what he wanted. end of story. that is with him, without him he just looks upset, maybe Garfield put something on the roof to tick him off.

That’s what I call a fine example of limbo. The concentration is intense!
