It's Garfield-as you've never seen him!
Come savor the existential adventures of Jon Arbuckle in Garfield Minus Garfield. Based on the phenomenon ignited by Dan Walsh's hilarious and wildly popular webcomic (beloved by The New York Times and The
Washington Post, and hailed as "inspired" by Garfield creator Jim Davis), Garfield Minus Garfield takes everyone's favorite fat cat out of the picture, leaving us with only the lonely ennui of Jon as he's left to voice thoughts about his own existence into an empty void.

Now there’s an idea… try taking Jon out of some Garfield strips and see how they come out!

In the minus Garfield one you have to wonder who he’s talking to. Otherwise it’s ok. Either way you get the same impression. You might as well figure Jon will be home early! LOL!

yeah it’s better without garfield because without jon it would be a punchline with no joke. but it was a good idea!

Garfield adds nothing to this particular strip except as someone for Jon to talk to. His lines add nothing to the joke. I like this one better without Garfield.

I think Jon looks very disturbed in both Strips. But even more in the Minus Garfield.

Without Garfield, Jon’s talking to the audience. So it works.

I dunno; without Garfield Jon’s talking to himself, so you might as well turn the speech into thought. The reason you can’t just take Jon out is because Most of the comics are jokes about how deplorable Jon’s life is. I think the original punchline for those was mostly like “omg this is funny, this guy’s cat even makes fun of him.” But without the cat the “This guy is a loser” effect is amplified.
