If I dust, I use the vacuum. That way the dust doesn’t land somewhere else in the room. (Whole house vacuum vented outdoors.)

As much time as Liz has spent in the house I would think she would have noticed how dirty it is.
Maybe the filthy kitchen made the rest of the house look good by comparison.
