My mom had a dog who liked to rip up paper. So she’d give him her junk mail and tell him to “read his mail” (rip it up). After this became a regular thing, he would “read his mail” every time with a manner that suggested diligent, dead-serious obedience.

Smokey was a sweet old dog, but she really did eat my homework once. I don’t recall if the teacher bought it.
