That joke is taken from a Seinfeld episode where Elaine is forced to stay at Jerry’s parents’ place for 5 days. (“The Pen”) The Seinfeld bit was taken from an Abbott & Costello bit called “Give me my money.”

Hi, Derek. If you walk back and forth over a place long enough, your feet will will make a path in the surface. A groove is like a deep line in the surface of something. Hope that helps.
