"Frog Applause reminds one of learning to read, in the sense that each word in the captions seems 'surprising' and new. Teresa's writing takes one back to that fresh state of mind (typical of, but of course not limited to, childhood) in which the brain, free of preconceptions, doesn't 'fill in' any blind spots along the way but rather wholly embraces the present moment as it unfolds. Every sentence is literally an imagination-expanding adventure." — Craig Conley, author of One-Letter Words: A Dictionary (HarperCollins)

Its not love of money, as the prophet said, but fear of pain that’s the root of evil.

I’ve always attributed it to camping and burned marshmallow cravings, but I am no expert.

re:Japanese Batman & Robin
This is just one of a myriad Menko cards that have been around since the Edo period. You’ll see a bunch of different ones, including the Dynamic Duo in various guises here.
Next to the sadly constipated looking Robin, Batman seems to be in his primary colors period with a bit of Joker impression going there.
The large katakana on the right read Bat-toman. The kanji in the circle translates as ‘village headman’. Don’t ask me why.

um, Teresa? Shouldn’t ‘SHOE-WEARING CHICKEN CHASING BY BOYS WHO WEAR MAKE-UP: AN AMERICAN PASTIME’ be ‘CHASED BY’?

You’re right. Something must be done about those pasta gobbling male arsonists trying to show that their genitalia are intact.

I spent the night in Dingle, County Kerry back in 1999. Very nice place with a famous bar. It’s also known for its dolphin. That was where I came up with my favorite idea: marry an Irish woman (with business smarts) and open up a bed & breakfast with a pub on one side and a bookstore on the other. And, after my exposure to FA, I would have to add a small art gallery with the bookstore. I also saw my favorite painting—“Himself, Herself” at an art museum in County Cork. Unfortunately, I can’t find a print.
