"Frog Applause reminds one of learning to read, in the sense that each word in the captions seems 'surprising' and new. Teresa's writing takes one back to that fresh state of mind (typical of, but of course not limited to, childhood) in which the brain, free of preconceptions, doesn't 'fill in' any blind spots along the way but rather wholly embraces the present moment as it unfolds. Every sentence is literally an imagination-expanding adventure." — Craig Conley, author of One-Letter Words: A Dictionary (HarperCollins)

I keep mentioning Missouri in my strip because it’s my home state. Missouri is also the home of Andrews McMeel Universal, the parent company of uclick (who runs GoComics).

TRIVIA QUESTIONS FOR TODAY: Name at least two living cartoonists who were born in Missouri and who currently have a comic strip/panel syndicated in print. (Bill Hinds, you are eligible to answer too).
—
There are other well-known cartoonists from Missouri. Name at least two others (living or dead).

Wow, Teresa, Missouri must be a very funny place. Either that or everyone is bored out of their skulls.

Wasn’t Mort Walker born in Missouri?

Mort Walker was born in El Dorado, Kansas. He grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, however… and graduated with a BA from The University of Missouri (in Columbia) in 1948.
—
That said, Mort Walker is not NOT one of the answers I was looking for in Trivia Question, part 1, Tom.
Hey, Mr. Gammill, you suck!

Great question frogapplause. I could only come up with the late great Fred Lasswell. And…unfortunately I’m old enough to remember “Snuffy Smith and Barney Google.

cleokaya: Yes, you got one. Fred Lasswell was born in Kennett, Missouri.

Do I need to give hints about the other Missouri-born cartoonists?

I believe I read somewhere that one of the original Little Orphan Annie Cartoonists was from MO. (I should know this one but I dont).

United Press Syn. site for Gary(or glenn?) McCoy says he was born in St. Louis MO 1965 (exact stats as my older sister) I had thought he was born on the East Side. Maybe his brother too?

I forgot about Glenn McCoy… but since I said “name at least two living cartoonists”, I’m in the clear. And, yes, Glenn McCoy was born in St. Louis in 1965. Walt Disney was not born in Missouri. He was born in Chicago, but he grew up in Marceline, Missouri (so he doesn’t count).

Here’s my list so far:
Dan Piraro. Kansas City, MO. 1958. (Bizarro)
Mike Peters. St. Louis, MO. 1943. (Mother Goose & Grimm)
Fred Lasswell. Kennett, MO. 1916. (Barney Google and Snuffy Smith)
Glenn McCoy. St. Louis, MO. 1965. (The Duplex, The Flying McCoys)
George Booth. Cainsville, MO. 1926. (New Yorker)

Missouri is the “Show Me” state. I guess that’s why they draw cartoons instead of just text balloons.
