A Kindle is an e-book reader sold by Amazon. Think of it as a iPod for books.

The Gideons is a non-profit organization of Christian business and professional men. They’re probably best known for placing Bibles in hotel rooms as part of their evangelism effort.

The gag is that instead of leaving a a traditional book-type Bible in the hotel room, some member of the Gideons has left a Bible on a Kindle.

For future reference, Comics I Don’t Understand

No, I just prefer the old, solar-powered version. You open the covers, and if you can see the page, you can read it…

Some ignorant people think that taking a Gideon Bible from a Hotel/Motel room is stealing. Well, Gideon Bibles are NOT the property of the hotel or motel.

The Gideons don’t care if a person takes one. I had a theology professor who was a member of the Gideons. He was also on the New Testament translation committee for the New International Version Bible which was published in the 1970s.
