Chocolate for Fred-really??
Tom said, 3 months ago
I heard chocolate was toxic to dogs.

@ boff and Tom
You don’t read this strip much do you? Choc drops are a type of dog treat in the UK (and they’re not chocolate). If you don’t believe me, look it up.

Hmm… why’s Fred taking such a tough line? Has mister been promising choc drops and not delivering on them? Bad man!
Macushlalondra said, 3 months ago
I think he hopes to get two choc-drops, one now and one after he brings the slippers.

He’s been reading too much Buckles.

Fred, it doesn’t work that way…

How about one Choc-drop after each slipper?

Considering the amount of sausages that you get, Fred, I think you owe him rather than vice versa!

Recommendation for new readers:
PREFACE YOUR STATEMENTS.
I have seen this “chocolate is bad for dogs” ignorance posted a dozen times in the last year alone.
Here’s a suggestion:
“I an new to this strip, so forgive me if you have already dealt with this subject, but….”?
At some point we will stop answering you and let you wallow in your uninformed ignorance.
If you are going to ask the same question that has been asked 267 times, at least take a knee, beg forgiveness, and remind us you’re new. Chance are whatever you are asking has been asked (and answered) before.

@truecanadianliberal “I am new to this strip, so forgive me if you have already dealt with this subject, but…”
Now that is out of the way, how about a “recommendation” of my own? Let questions you’ve seen before slide, no rude responses necessary.
If a question has been asked before, you don’t have to answer it! Let someone with more patience do it.
I am not new to Fred Basset, but I didn’t know he was still around! I read him decades ago, but then he left our papers, and I only rediscovered him yesterday!
Oh, just so no one reading your post remains in “uninformed ignorance,” since I don’t want their dogs becoming ill or dying, chocolate IS toxic to dogs! It is one of the most common causes of poisoning for dogs. No amount is safe. If your dog gets into milk chocolate, it is less dangerous. I know, my dog ate a bag of Kisses once!

While we’re at it, can we also silence the pedants who go off on “The Rant” every time lemmings are the subject of a joke???

@Katiekicks
I’ll take your word for it.

That is exactly my point. Time and time again I have let the same questions slide while other more knowledgeable and patient readers chime in. This was a tipping point.
And strangely enough, I have heard from other dog owners that what you said is just an old wives’ tale, and that in small doses there is no need to panic.
Or not.
Or milk chocolate.
Or not.
My family’s dog is not fed chocolate but I seriously doubt a small amount would panic anyone.
