   Some people still have real fires, but most have central heating. A lot of people keep a fireplace, with a gas or electric fire as a focal point.
   I think Fred’s fire is to show how cosy he is feeling preparing for a nap after his walk and dinner.

    When my parents got their new house in 1967 it was forced air central heating.
