    RE Yesterday,

    Yes, it was the “beacon” that had no meaning to me.

    So you guys fill a garbage can with trash and set it on fire and it becomes a “beacon”. That’s clever! It gets you around needing to go down to the fire department and get a burning permit (for about fifteen bucks, here) for burning trash (tumbleweeds and unwanted weeds in your yard)!

    No. Fred was asking IF it was a beacon. It wasn’t.

    Beacons were lit as notification for assorted events. The Spanish Armada being the most famous. These days they are used a celebratory device. They are bonfires. Quite fast. Messages at the speed of light minus lighting-up speed.

    Hmmm. This comic must have been drawn on June 4, as that was the date of Great Britian’s Bank Holiday this year.

    @Tom

    We do have more than one Bank Holiday, but that was the extra one for the Jubilee. You are right about the dating of the strip. It’s late.

    The conversation and the strip follow on from yesterday’s strip, both of which are referring to the Queen’s Jubilee.

    I’m sure tea is a preferred drink in several cultures, but I will take a good cup of coffee any time, I would even prefer Nuclear Coffee. Not sure when I had my last cup of tea. Last cup of coffee about 5 minutes ago.

    Just curious if coffee is popular in tea countries, England, The Orient, etc…. Any help on this? Kind of a lame subject, just wondering.

    It depends a bit on which region of the UK people live in. The younger people in the London and surrounds seem to enjoy coffee, but most of the older folk and those in the North of England really love their cuppa. My English grandmother had a ritual for tea-making and she never let us take short cuts.
