Here in Belize we don’t have Thanksgiving Day. Last Sunday was Garifuna Settlement Day.
Belize’s ties to the USA and Canada get closer & closer all the time so I’m a little surprised about no Thanksgiving. Maybe that Can & USA celebrate on different days is a contributing factor. Harvest Festival is always a big church event. It is not a fixed day & different at different churches. Our little church, which is usually 2/3 full has 3 packed services for Harvest Festival. People bring offerings of food, etc.. There is no one singe yearly harvest in the tropics. Different crops are harvested at different times & sometime more than once per year for some plants, or staggered. So that’s another factor against fixing a date.
I saw the same in Tanzania. The offering there included live livestock. I think it may have been begun by the Brits. TZ & BZ are both former British colonies.
