    Why the totally undeserved belief that “natural” is somehow superior to artificial? Have you ever seen free-range automobiles, computers growing on trees, shirts and pants lying around where they were shed by the creatures who previously wore them, volcanoes belching out canned soup, or similar “natural” occurrences of any of the myriad other things that human beings have invented to keep us SEPARATED from nature? The entirety of civilization has been put here by human beings who recognize that, in our natural state, we are basically prey — No fangs. No claws. No armor. No fur. No poison. Crappy camouflage. Slow runners. Poor swimmers. Can’t fly. And, to top it all off, soppily devoted to our offspring, who remain helpless and useless for years after birth. We NEED artificiality to keep from going extinct.

    Yup, plastic and aluminum, completely natural. Heck the plastic is even organic.

    Well, they’re sure not supernatural, are they?

    And here I just thought that Caulfield had been re-reading Malthus.

    I wondered if he meant that in the natural world, and some parts of the human one, being hungry was normal… the default status.
    Curiously,

    That bun on top of her head is natural… in fact, I think it’s looking for an escape route!

    Hunger is the default status. That along with reproduction as prime movers of life. Search for food takes up most of their time. Less of ours since we control our food production and distribution.

    “Un Frazzlike”? You think so? I dunno. Unkind comments from Frazz are not uncommon, I’d say.

    I don’t get the joke here – though what Respectful Troll said about most of the world’s population being hungry makes the most sense.

    Hunger is a default status for me, that’s for sure.

    @aurorawanderer

    There isn’t much of a joke to get, really. An insult comic’s gag: Mrs. Olsen doesn’t meet Frazz’s standard for “natural”. (Haha.) Everything that comes before the punchline is set-up, strained and contrived.
