    Yup. Gregor it is.
    That’s my bet.

So how does he dress like him?

Caulfield doesn’t usually do anything as obvious as a bug suit, so I’m guessing he’ll be the “before” character….
but that seems a bit nondescript.

I still want it to be Archie, but sadly almost no one remembers him.

archie’s typewriter might be a challenge, but it would be a worthy one!

Oh Archie is remembered but Archie is hardly classic literature.

Love the suggestions Holden’s sister and Archie, but I think it’s clearly Gregor S.

A hat like a typewriter key? Because having a kid diving head-first onto the key sounds a little dangerous . . .

Spiderman is a bit low brow for Caufield’s taste.

Im going with Khafka’s Metamorphosis. Caulfield would never do something so obvious as Spiderman. He likes to keep us guessing! Plus that earlier reference to “pest”. Cockroaches are clear “pests”. Spiders are good.

Maybe he’s going as Mrs. Olsen. He always has her climbing the walls.

“I can’t wait to show off …” says Caulfield. That would apply any day of the year.
