    re: thebird

i’ve seen it in many people. The side effect of it being legal in my state for 24 years was that about a third of my generation here hit the wall, crashed and burned. Even worse are the birth defects that happened. For example, a girl I loved in high school had a kid with classic fetal marijuana syndrome. Small head, seizures, mentally damaged. That person is handicapped from before birth.

We won’t mention the birth defects caused by Alcohol use or smoking by the Mother while pregnant.
The multi-national Corporations that control those products spend Millions of $$ in Congress every year to make sure they are downplayed.
Gotta keep those good old corporate profits flowing in!

As much as I hate to help the hijacking of a comic strip, I can’t resist playing devil’s advocate on this one…. At least with alcohol and cigarettes being legal, we get public-service-announcement posters telling pregnant women not to drink or smoke. (They’re quite common in public women’s restrooms, among other places.) Maybe if pot were legalized, it would become okay to publicize fetal marijuana syndrome, which I must admit I’d never heard of.

After 50 years of highlighting the nasty effects of smoking, anyone who still chooses to do so deserves whatever may happen to them. Everyone knows somebody who has died from lung cancer or emphysema due to smoking. If that is how you want to die, more power to you. Just don’t make my insurance and medical costs go up because of your bad decisions.

What I find amazing is that states think they can legalize marijuana, and are getting away with it. Marijuana is illegal by federal law, which over-rides state law, yet the Feds do nothing. Best guess, they are using the states to “test” before making it legal nationally.

Interesting. I’ve seen other commentators ask you to cite sources in your anti-marijuana comments and claims, as outrageous as they are.
Mind you I am very much an anti-smoker & smoke of any kind bothers me. But I am a avid news/science junkie and have known many, many marijuana smokers over the years. Have yet to see (or ever heard of) any of their children with the “classic fetal marijuana syndrome”. Quite the opposite in fact. Please cite your sources on such topics. Thanks.

The whole “medical marijuana” thing is a scam – the only relief it provides is intoxication – you can get the same thing from painkillers or consuming alcohol. The medical marijuana advocates merely want to get high, and they should be honest about it. Personally, I think they should legalize it, sell it and tax it, same as alcohol and tobacco.

That’s not fair. I was going to ask @Nabuquduriuzhur to cite his sources, as I was unable to find any information from serious sources about this “fetal marijuana (or cannabis) syndrome”, other than those that say that there is no evidence that the syndrome actually exists.
But then again let’s not forget that @Nabuquduriuzhur has a history of making assertions that are then proven to be false.

This “fetal marijuana syndrome” reminds me about the huge “crack babies” epidemic in the 1980’s which turned out to be essentially non-existent.

Our “scientist” has no sources…lol. Well aside from the same source that makes him believe the world is only 10,000 yrs old, tops.

Says (and I quote) “No consistent patterns of facial features were identified among the marijuana-exposed group.”

Now if even the guberment (yeah, intentional misspelling) folks don’t claim it exists when THEY are the ones spreading all the other “doom and gloom” about pot, I tend to doubt it exists.

But pot smokers are often also alcohol users (no causation implied, simply a correlation), they may have babies that suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome that people want to attribute to the pot instead.
