The boy in gray is about to brachiate right into the boy in red.

Aren’t those bars forbidden nowadays as too dangerous? Heaven forbid kids should do anything that seems like real exercise, or learn any physical skill …

I learned the word from an old anthropologist in one of my few interesting university courses. He did a great job imitating various primate forms of locomotion. If they had had cell phones back then, pictures of him knuckle-walking would have gone viral.

Nope. All schools have them at ridiculous heights for elementary school kids.

Monkey bars are great for developing upper body strength and endurance. Having mulch and rubber pads is a better landing than mud and gravel.
The climbing ropes going to the 20’ ceiling of the gym are gone.

My daughter’s school installed rubber pads in the entire playground last year. The skinned knees (etc) went down, but the broken bones went up.

I remember when my brother and I lost our kite in a huge tree when I was around 6. My dad was about 44 at the time and climbed to the very top of the tree in front of the whole neighborhood. I was just hoping for a new kite. My dad was trying to impress the housewives.

Sorry to hear that. Climbing to the top of that 20’ rope was one of the few things I could do to show off physically.
