Sorry, you’re predictable in your own odd way.

    Love the metaphor, though…

Nothing to do with anything, but one of my favorite sayings is: “Ships are safe in the harbor….But that’s not what ships are for….”

I like that saying. I’m going to put it in my book of sermon ideas.

That’s like when I tell my dog that I’d beat her senseless – except that she already is senseless! ;-)

(Therefore, no beating needed – and I wouldn’t actually beat her anyway)

I beat my cats senseless, but I have to cleverly disguise the beatings as pettings. Let THAT be a lesson to them!

That’s a good one. Reminds me of the Oscar Hammerstein lI lyric: “I am a vagabond sailor / All my friends call me ‘sport’ / I am a fellow for action / Any storm in a port!”

I needed one of those for school too. I had a restaurant job that went late after school and would sometimes fall asleep in class. The key is to not take a college prep class and they won’t care.

Ships weren’t safe in Pearl Harbor when the Japanese decided upon a preemptive action.

For reasons best known to those who get up really early in the morning, my college Senior Year English Lit class was scheduled for 7:30 AM. That’s back a while, of course; but even then, I was NOT an early riser, and did work part time nights.

Middle of Winter. Hot – OH! Very Hot classroom! And, for the most part, assignments from authors I had read years before. So . . . .

You can imagine the class’s response as the Professor woke me up, with the admonition: “I know you aren’t really accustomed to this kind of early class. But, while we don’t really mind your drowsing off, PLEASE try not to snore so loudly.”

When I did a C-store stint the local HS students breakfast consisted of two glazed donuts and a big can of Jolt Cola, this was just before the energy drinks hit.
