Frazz by Jef Mallett follows the adventures of an unexpected role model: an elementary-school janitor who's also a Renaissance man. While he's sweeping the hall, he's whistling Beethoven. Or Lyle Lovett. He paints the woodwork in the classrooms; he paints a Da Vinci on the cafeteria wall. He's a trusted authority figure who is every kid's buddy. He took the janitor's job while he was a struggling songwriter, and when he finally sold a hit song, he decided to stay on at school. Frazz appears in 200 newspapers worldwide, including the Los Angeles Times, Seattle Times, Chicago Tribune and Detroit News. "A few years back, I wrote and illustrated a children's book," says Mallett. "When I was traveling around reading it at school assemblies, I noticed that often, the most respected, best-liked grown-up in the building was the janitor. And I thought, 'Hmm, there's a comic strip in that.'" Often praised for its intelligent wit, gentle spirit and effortless diversity, Frazz won a Wilbur Award from the Religion Communicators Council in 2003 and 2005 for excellence in communicating values and ethics.

Actually, he was talking about Gerald Ford, who was at that time House Minority Leader.
And Nixon was smarter than LBJ, anyway.

Somehow I doubt a real child of that age (or any age) would really have that much of a problem saying “fart”, even to an adult. The real reason she can’t say it is not that she’s young or that she’s at school, but because she’s on the comics page. Bill Watterson even had trouble when he used words as mild as “booger”…

Nixon was a highly intelligent man. If he hadn’t been caught out he most probably have been one of the best presidents ever.

Nixon was intelligent, and he was paranoid, anxious, vindictive, and petty. Great on some counts, but ultimately self-destructive.

I used to hate Nixon with a passion, but it has faded…And in this political climate he would be called a liberal….Combined, Pacopuddy and Randy have it about right, though

Intelligent in some respects, but not smart enough to play fair. I’d prefer an average person with integrity over a brilliant but untrustworthy person any day.

Agreed. He was a great congressman, a great VP, and could easily have been a great President had he possessed more self-control. I’m halfway through his memoirs, and I’ve developed a great deal of admiration for him.

It was regarding Gerald Ford and from what I heard the original “can’t walk and chew gum at the same time” was the sanitized version …. maybe the original was indeed, “can’t fart and chew gum” (and what kid doesn’t know what “fart” means – would they say “pass wind”?) LBJ was indeed vulgar and probably would love South Park today

Reminds me of the time Betty Ford was asked what sort of birth control she & Jerry used. She replied that she simply gives him a stick of gum!

I never hated Nixon. He was the coolest President we ever had. “Tricky Dick” was the best.

For all his faults, Nixon was the last conservation president. How many today know that the EPA was his idea (and until about ten years ago, it did it’s job very well). He signed the ESA, NEPA, CWA, CAA and other groundbreaking conservation acts.
Carter, by comparison, created the nuclear fuel situation by halting reprocessing of waste, and ended sustained yield on federal forest lands in 1976, opening up the woods to be mostly cut by 1989. To give an idea of what happened, the yield in the Northwest went from 11 billion board feet in 1981 to 18 billion by 1989 and then it crashed. While most forests were not cut as dramatically as the Willamette NF, 96% of its unprotected lands were cut from 1976 to 1989.
