Frank and Ernest, created by Bob Thaves, chronicles the antics of two "everyman" characters who are anything but ordinary! They appear in different settings, time periods - even manifest as things and creatures other than people. The variety in the strip extends to their observations about a wide number of subjects.

For those of you who know Spanish, here you have this little treat from a “Mafalda” strip from the 1960s-70s:

Did you notice North America is shaped like a turtle? The Native Americans, who are the true discoverers of America, had a name for their land meaning “Turtle Island.” But no one wrote it down so it was lost in history.

Continental Drip was a real theory put forward by Manny Schwartz, who believed the continents had once been molten, and had dripped into a pointy shape due to gravity. (Hey, I didn’t say it was a GOOD theory.)

This is a sage observation. I think Frank and Earnest have made a great geological discovery! There must be a reason!

Attempting to translate:
Panel 1: But Freedom, you’re putting it upside down!
Panel 2: Upside down compared to what? The earth is in space, and space has neither up nor down.
Panel 3: That the northern hemisphere is the above is a psychological trick invented by those who believe they are up, so we continue to believe that we are down below, and the bad thing is that if we sell that we are growing we will continue down being down. But today, ( ? ) over!
Panel 4a: Where were you Mafalda?
Panel 4b: I do not know, but something has just (? finally made sense ???)
