Frank and Ernest, created by Bob Thaves, chronicles the antics of two "everyman" characters who are anything but ordinary! They appear in different settings, time periods - even manifest as things and creatures other than people. The variety in the strip extends to their observations about a wide number of subjects.

All politicians have “promising” careers, win or lose.
The great thing about a democracy/republic is that we can elect our leaders.
The worst hing about a democracy/republic is that we get the leaders that we elect.

The USA wasn’t originally a democracy, it was a federal republic. Big difference.

If 50% of Americans woke up and realized they don’t have to vote for the lesser of two evils propped up and made by the press (and the establishment that owns the press)… If we stopped voting for the evil we’d cut back on the evil.

Summed up best by Douglass Adams:
“Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.”

Well said. I remember the old tv show ‘The Defenders’ It opened with the words “Democracy is a very poor form of government but all the others are so much worse.”

From Pawn of Prophecy:
“Election is a very bad way to choose a king. The other ways are worse, however.”

Term Limits sounds like a great idea, but we’ve had that in California, and you see how well that’s worked out for us.
All they do is term out then have one of their cohorts appoint them to some government bureaucracy job, where they cool their heels for a while before they can run again for something else.
It just turns out, when you’ve got crooks in office, and you keep re-electing those same crooks every election cycle, you’re going to get a crooked government. I don’t care whether they’ve got an “R” or a “D” next to their name, the bulk of them are crooks.
And that’s all there is to it.

NOT a “big difference.” Instead, the USA is both a democracy AND a republic. Look up the definitions.
DEMOCRACY: a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation.
REPUBLIC: a: a government having a chief of state who is not a monarch; b: a government in which supreme power resides in a body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by elected officers and representatives responsible to them and governing according to law.
Sadly, our representatives tend to forget to whom they are supposed to be responsible and our government forgets the “according to law” requirement. As a result, we are slipping into an oligarchy.
