I think that the whole commodities market should be changed so you can only sell something on it IF you have already taken physical possession of it!! THAT would cut down the speculator idiots just driving the prices of everything up for their own profit!!

    For instance, read this: http://www.paulcraigroberts.org/2012/06/05/collapse-at-hand/

" US banks’ derivative bets of $230 trillion, concentrated in five banks, are 15.3 times larger than the US GDP. A failed political system that allows unregulated banks to place uncovered bets 15 times larger than the US economy is a system that is headed for catastrophic failure."

    I couldn’t agree more!!!!

    Doesn’t “unloading” usually mean selling at a loss… ? ? ? If so…. it would be mentally demanding …. ! ! !

If you look at many different articles and websites concerning the U.S. derivatives market, you will quickly realize that no one has real data but all agree that it is larger than the entire U.S. economy. In other words, the derivatives represent more money than actually exists. The polite description for that is “it’s all an illusion,” the less polite term is “fraud.” The truth is probably a mixture of both.

You’re absolutely right. Regardless of the specific numbers, we are so screwed. It hasn’t even begun to get ugly yet.

I thought it was called “rump roast” because the butcher carelessly backed into his meat grinder, and got a little behind in his work…. :]

You’re right, but you got it backwards. Gluttony — not obesity, which is just the effect, and can have many causes — is just another form of greed. Human pride, greed, and stupidity, “the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life”: the source of everything we do wrong, sometimes even overruling our own better judgment.

In the People’s Party (Populists) Omaha Platform of 1892, they called for the abolition of commodities trading on the grounds that it did nothing productive and took away money rightfully belonging to the producer (mostly farmers) and consumer (mostly everybody). Today, only Greens support that commonsense approach.
