I hope Peter Fox takes his cap off when within the chapel.

My parents’ philosophy on religion: God helps those who go to church. And God help them if they don’t.

He does. It’s the only time you’ll ever see him without it on.

My philosophy was “Why does a being that created something 14 billion years ago take attendance on this one speck”?

Cosmology’s a religion. As a regular reader of Astronomy since 1978, it’s been fascinating to watch it go from a science to a religion. When it left the four dimensions of space-time, it left science behind.

    .
when dealing with the infinite, expect the infinite.
    .
I’ve often wondered if God created other worlds with life.
    .
Speaking of infinite, consider that each and every born-again Christian has the Holy Spirit. Now, that’s infinite!
    .
But not out of character. “16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18 He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.”” John 3:16-21 NASB

Except in those strips where it’s falling off because of wind/need of a haircut.

My answer to Peter: a controlling church.

Not necessarily. My church doesn’t hold Christmas services if Christmas falls on a weekday (as it does this year). We have a special Christmas service the Sunday before Christmas, and — depending on the locality — our Christmas party is usually held a week or two in advance of the day.

As I told my priest this past Sunday, “Bet you’re busier this week than most of Santa’s elves.”

When Christmas Day happens to fall on a Sunday, we have only one meeting and then go home to spend the rest of the day with family.

A disrespectful statement like that would have earned me some punishment as a child.

And for all of you being disrespectful of Christianity and Christmas (which came about because of Jesus Christ), go soak your head. :)

My church is having a service on Christmas Eve, but I work nights. So I won’t be able to attend.

I think you answered your own question [ I’ve pondered the same thing many times also] I firmly believe we are alone in this entire universe – no other life forms of any kind. I hope that if we live long enough other perfect worlds will be discovered – without life. The secularists might ponder why life did not evolve there – hopefully they’ll realize it didn’t evolve here either.
