I dont get the “the word a” joke. As if his sandwich would start with a dif word? Jason’s sandwich still had more than one component, so you could still call Peter’s sandwich starting with the letter ‘a,’ as long as you use the word ‘and’ in there a bunch of time, as he did with Jason’s sandwich.

I’ve always thought it really cool that Amend has Peter dating Denise, who is blind. In the strips, it’s clear that he’s devoted to her, and she to him. Amend was light years ahead of other cartoonists in presenting a supporting character who had a disability, and integrated that character so well into the general story line.

The joke is that Peter’s lunch should contain, not A ham and cheese sandwich, but SEVERAL DOZEN ham and cheese sandwiches.
