@ lmanartisthoney - Do you mean that in your area poem actually does rhyme with tome? It certainly doesn’t here in Texas. Not criticizing, please. I just like to study language. In some dialects poem really is pronounced “pome” but where I live it is almost 2 syllables - “po-em.”

davidf42 - poetic license. You can get one at your local library. Just ask the librarian. And remember - no rhyming out of season.

Oh no, actual books!?!? The horror of it all.

Actually, this has been my favorite gift both to receive and to appropriately give.

Likewise, SeS1066 (and even when I was 10!)

I’ll take the tomes and old books of old poems, please. I may even want the fruity granola stuff, if it doesn’t involve raisins.

Yes SeS1066, actual books. Just think, no Kindle or smart phone apps needed in order to enjoy. Nothing that will be obsolete or required to be repurchased in six months.

(I’m not a technophobe. Just putting my tongue in my cheek).

To kids, it’s bad when you don’t get what you want. Kids want toys and video games, not practical items.

From A Christmas Story: Ralphie as Adult: [narrating about diving with his brother into the gifts under the Christmas tree] We plunged into the cornucopia quivering with desire and the ecstasy of unbridled avarice. Mr. Parker: Didn’t I get a tie this year?

None of that for the Foxtrot kids this year.

Davidf42, “poem” is not almost two syllables in Texas, it IS two syllables. Then again, “you all” is just one syllable down here. (… though “here” is NEARLY two syllables, come to think of it…)
