I bet those two were very cute when they were little. Guess they never heard of “Dancing With The Stars”.

Which dance craze lasted longer, swing or the foxtrot???

I don’t know which but I’m glad Dancing With The Stars is making people more aware of the different dance styles. I only wish I could but unable to, I enjoy the show. Even children of different ages are getting into the swing of dance.

Swing is STILL going strong. Check out the music of Brian Setzer, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Veronica Martell, Cherry Picking Daddies, and many, many others.

Ninmas, I think this strip originally came out when (or shortly after) there was a swing dance revival. I remember seeing twenty somethings dressed in vintage outfits heading off to swing dance at a local club. Clearly, however, the dad is clueless about the fact that there was a revival at all.

@TrapperJohn: I believe that’s “Poppin’”, not “Picking”…offensive name but great music. And don’t forget the awesome Squirrel Nut Zippers (also sounds questionable but the band took their name from a brand of candy in the 20’s).
@bubbie7: swing is a form of music and a form of dance (East Coast and West Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, etc.), both GREAT forms.

It still seems strange to me to remember Brian Setzer rocking out on stage in the Stray Cats and then see his swing orchestra performing years later.

Pursuant to earlier notes on October 10, 2009 (local civil calendar):
“Tipping” is only one example of innumerable inconsistencies in the natives’ cultures. For example, in the leading nation-state of the western continent (I have just learned today), “foxtrot” is a dance form and a graphic art form called a “comic strip”, “swing” is a style of music and a style of accompanying dance, and “tofu” is served widely across the world yet in its poorest variety here in the west, and thus is avoided by many at all costs. This originally ran in 1998, back when Swingers, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies and other bands were riding a swing wave.
