Oy. You have a serious need for a filter. Call Jason in and he’ll fix you right up.

This must have been written during the Clinton administration.

A few years ago my Mother got her first computer and I helped her get it set up and hooked up to the Internet.
6 Months later I was home for Christmas and she asked me to look at her computer because it was slow and not working right.
So I turned it on (with my two school age children near by to help) and within moments I had a dozen porn shots on the screen (particularly rough stuff I might add too). So I scooted the children out of the room and asked my mom what kinds of websites she had been visiting.
She vehemently insisted that she didn’t want that stuff and never asked for it. I told her, truthfully, I believed her but reminded her that if she had caught me with this kind of stuff as a boy she would have grabbed a wooden spoon and a bar of soap.
So I cleaned the computer of virus and spyware and then explained, patiently, to her that when a popup window comes up on her computer the kneejerk reaction should be “NO!”. It turns out that she had been clicking “Yes” everytime she got a popup window and that led to all sorts of spyware and trojans on her poor infested computer.
Moral of the story - Even the most innocent searches can get porn dumped on you if you aren’t careful.

Maybe Ray C. But it also might be yet another “change” we were lied to about.

My daughter tried reach her college through the website and kept infecting our internet. She was able to do school work.
When we fitst got our computer hookup with internet. I let popups alone. This was for WATC and I needed internet for class.

I burned out my first computer innocently clicking that which should not be clicked.
Curiosity killed the computer?

Definitely Clinton-era… to the point where reprinting it now isn’t even appropriate.

I’m sure he’ll give her a good deal on his Jasonsoft filter. 50 Bucks, and he’ll change the settings back to safe filtering.

The strange thing is that for once I was being serious.
Yeah, yeah, I know: “Rakkav: many words, serious; few words, funny.” Sorry to throw you all off there. :)

Well, I can understand ancient Egypt coming up with porn.
