Bill Amend has said in various places that the A is for Amherst. I’ve seen it in the Amherst alumni magazine, and over the past 20+ years it’s surely been elsewhere too. It’s this kind of world-changing research that Al Gore invented Google for (if I’ve got that right … maybe I should Goregle it).
