    I’ve seen this one before, in the reprint books. I never connected it with 9/11. Thanks Fairport.

    TV used to be good more often than it sometimes seems today, but the point of this strip is that this was done in reference to the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Regular programming was pre-empted, and there were a couple of weeks when it seemed that there was nothing on TV except the search for bodies amid the rubble and replays of the news footage from that day, and yet it seemed we could not stop watching all of it, like slowing down to look as you drive by an accident except it went on and on. I think we all kept hoping that by some miracle someone would be found alive. It was very grim TV watching in September 2001.
