    Be grateful it’s not the story of Jonah. Can you really get a whale shark (Rhincodon typus) or a blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus) to a Sunday school class?

    Well it says “fish” so think of a fish then make it giant. Just like dragons and unicorns in the Bible. (Don’t forget talking animals.)

    I think “fish” could also include whale. How you classify animals is arbitrary. We (moderns) distinguish fish from water-dwelling mammals and/or air-breathers like whales, but I doubt that the ancients did. Whales and dolphins would be fish to them.

    @Ray C

    It would help if it gave a little more data like did it have scales or a smooth skin?

    We need to be interpreting it as they would, with less real knowledge and more superstition and myth.

    Still, there might be a lot left behind the animals to clean up. . . . .
