Ah sweet revenge! Those friends and neighbors are about to be taught a lesson Elly-style.

Awkward BBQ occasion reason. Can’t it just be a regular get-together?

Don’t worry, Phil. I’m sure Elly will not be so crass as to invite your ex-girlfriend (neighbor Connie Poirier) to her party while you have your current girlfriend there. She has too much respect for you to do that.

Yep, she’s the type to do something thoughtless like that. Awkward city…

Well, John, that’s one easy way to do it… ;)

I’ve been in that situation. Pretty much unavoidable at a good friend’s 40th birthday where old Uni. mates are invited. I was invited, with my wife who I met when traveling abroad … My “ex” from Uni. days was also there, recently separated from her husband. We carefully avoided each other all night.

my family has a big BBQ celebration every summer to celebrate the summer birthdays…….we have approx. 15 of the 20 or so extended family that have summer birthdays. Just makes more sense to have one big party.

Right. Because adults who used to date are completely incapable of being at the same function together and behaving in a polite and friendly manner. It’s horrifyingly unreasonable to expect that.

Well, it does seem to be difficult to see a casual statement here without passing a caustic comment… :-)

In the day of close-knit neighborhoods, that’ used to be expected.

And each of those people were expecting a one on one dinner invitation from John and Elly for the juicy steak and fine wine they presented at their dinner. Now they will be repaid with a bowl of potato chips and a plate of
    watermelon.

Just leave that potato salad out in the sun a few extra minutes and you will have a BARBQ the neighborhood won’t forget, alright!

Just out of curiousity, since I keep seeing this theme in so many of your posts, are there are human females you approve of at all, living or dead? (I would guess not…)
