With two very active children and a husband, it is no wonder Elly hasn’t had time to make cookies. A fun thing to do, however, would be to “take ten” and get the ingredients for cookies (and an easy recipe,) and have some fun with the kids. Dinner can wait, children can’t… ;)

If you can stand a bit of a mess with flour this would be an good time to have Lizzie and Friends do the sifting of the dry ingredients for Tollhouse cookies. A bit too many of “not your own kids” to have them do the real mixing of everything in bowl with a spoon, but they all could take turns running the sifter.

That’s a cute way of saying it.

When my kids have friends over, I used to make cookies, but no one ate them (except for me). They seemed to prefer the salty, savory snacks like Goldfish, crackers and popcorn.

Elly has been amazingly well-composed ever since she got back from her trip. Maybe the trip somehow made her more even-keeled, just like when Michael went off to summer camp and met Martha he seemed to do a complete 180 and stopped being a brat.

Wonder if Elly would introduce those kids to Murphy’s Oil Soap, whereupon the kids would then be shown how to use it on the wall to clean up their grimy paw prints!

This is not the age of healthy snacks. Now with Dr. Oz and all the magazines giving suggestions there should be fruit and whole grain, sugarless alternatives available at home.

I think the suggestion is that time away has given Elly enough of a breather that she doesn’t feel as overwhelmed by the multiple and constant repeat tasks required to take care of housework, kids, and husband. It’s perhaps easier to deal with muddy handprints on walls when you’ve been outside those walls for awhile….

“Interesting comparison. Are you suggesting meeting Claire has caused Elly to do a 180?”
It’s certainly possible. Some women need interactions with other women in order to feel sane. Problems happen when a woman loves women but is unsure and awkward on how to interact with them if her mother liked men and couldn’t show an example of how to interact with women, to start a friendship with a woman, etc. So then same gender friendships for this sort of woman don’t get off the ground. If a woman who likes women has a mother who liked women, this all goes a lot smoother.

ingredients of home bought cookies are probably a lot different and plentiful than home baked cookies.

She hasn’t had time, she’s been busy taking care of her family and the household.

Re: store-bought vs. homemade cookies…no preservatives in homemade cookies! ;)

Christopher & Richard’s mom used to make everything herself. Baked her own bread, squeezed her own orange juice, made her own baby food. All with organic, no-preservative ingredients. Eventually with two boys she couldn’t maintain it. And then got a guilt complex when her daughter was born with six fingers on each hand because OBVIOUSLY if she stayed on her organic, preservative free diet it wouldn’t have happened.
