My parents always went OUT for New Year’s, so we never had that issue. However, except for when we were very young, we were allowed to stay up ‘til midnight. Every year I had my radio with me, listening to the Year’s Top 100 songs. One year, when I was about 16, I had to babysit my younger brother, but my parents let my boyfriend come over to spend New Year’s with me. My mom even bought us a single-serve bottle of Andre’s Pink Champagne to share at midnight. (He stayed in our guest room…and no, there was no hanky-panky.)

I would say they both will fall asleep long before midnight. For us I will turn older New Year Eve and be lucky to stay awake 11pm to watch New York ball drop.

Some kids will sleep through anything. A thief broke into my old house and stole video games right from under my kids’ sleeping noses. Very scary.

I was spanked (one smack only) for sassing my mother. The indignity of being over my father’s knee was enough to teach me THAT lesson… and, no, he didn’t BEAT me.

So she’s a scumbag for making an ironic remark? Sure glad I don’t live in your house!!

    Lynn’s Notes:

Our log house had an opening next to the top stair, just before you stepped up to the second floor. It was a perfect spy-hole from which the kids could watch what was going on downstairs in the living room. We knew it was there, but we’d forget. Many an evening’s get-together was monitored by two silent, pyjama-clad spies, who went undiscovered — unless they snickered or fell asleep at their post!

She expects them to stay in their rooms in bed. Maybe you need t o clear your head first.

We were never shown either child being “beaten.”
