I can’t recall when it was done to me but I have seen other members of our family do it.

    Lynn’s Notes:
My father loved to dance. He would pick me up and dance with me until I fell asleep in his arms. He could sing so well and knew the words to so many songs that he never seemed to run out of waltzes or shanties or tunes from the bar. I remember the swoop of his body as he waltzed to the “Blue Danube” with theatrical panache. He could two-step and tango and polka and jive, and I melted into his shoulder with the rhythm and the warmth of his style.

Last November, my daughter, Katie, and her husband, Lane, presented me with my first grandchild. Laura is now almost two years old, and she loves to dance with me. I hold her the way my father held me. I sing the same songs, and I move with the same style. I thank him again and again for this memory and a gift that I’m now passing on.

I remember my dad always turning up the radio when they played Elvis’ Blue Suede Shoes and jiving with me….driving myself, older brother and younger sister to teen dances and hanging around till the band played Blue Suede Shoes, taking the time to jive with me and my sister and then coming back to get us when the dance was over.

When Clay Aiken wore blue suede shoes and sang the song a la Elvis Presley in Toronto in 2005, I knew my dad would have made sure God gave him a front row seat.

I remember if Grandpa was in a REALLY good mood after church, he’d put the coffee table on the couch and polka you around the room. He very rarely did it but it’s one of my favorite memories of him.

Everyone is an idiot except you and me and I’m beginning to have some doubt about you. Sounds ok to me.

Getting up must have exhausted him – he went straight back to bed.

How appropriate that the next comic on my list is “Fox Trot.” Or does anyone still know what that means?

Didn’t dance to it but growing up listened with my parents
many enjoyable hours of Big Band, Jazz, Show Tunes, and
Classical Music thru the records of Readers Digest,
Time-Life, and Longines Symphonette Society .
