Ah, the magic of a moving car. But this strip is really showing its age—not a seat belt for any of them.

That’s what I was thinking – Ah, back in the days before seat belt laws. Even Grandma and Grandpa are seat-belt-less.

It’s so weird to see everyone all loosey-goosey without seatbelts. I can’t look.

Hard to lie down in a seat belt. She would have had to redraw and rewrite.

Thanks for doing my googling for me. I’ve been living in Canada for nearly 5 years and it’s nice to learn new things.

When I was a kid, I was an only child and for long trips, I could sit in the middle seat, wear the seat belt around my waist (no shoulder straps) and lie in the back. We all did it from time to time. I was actually lying there during a car crash once, and was fine. It didn’t keep you still, but it kept you in the seat.

Jeeze, nick, lighten up. I found How’s observation interesting. Your rant I found very rude and completely unnecessary. Yeah, it is a comic strip but when it is drawn from real life (as opposed to something like Tom & Jerry), a certain level of factual reality is usually followed. If it bugged you so much, do not read his posts in the future. I will most likely not be reading yours.

On the seatbelt issue, if the law wasn’t passed until the 80s I imagine grandma and grandpa might not know about it or are too old to think about it. My own mom didn’t know that infants had to be rear facing till 1 year and was surprised at the recommendation of rear facing till 2 years. If she was out with my baby he’d have been forward facing for sure, law or no, because old people will be old people.

If no seatbelts make you nervous, how about no helmets? The helmet laws have been repealed here, so people are free to go helmetless on a fast motorcycle. Almost no one wears a helmet on a motorcycle anymore. The head can crack open like a cantaloupe. But it’s funny how everyone wears a helmet on a bicycle now. I think it’s the fashion now.

Most of our real lives are sadder. I know my story is.
