    when my oldest was about 2 we were flying from Hawaii to California and she was looking out the window, seeing white all around except for the blue below she stood up in the seat and asked me if that was heaven? The person behind us just burst out laughing, which I thought was kind of rude, but it was funny. I had to explain to her that the sky was not heaven, which set off a LOAD of questions that lasted until we landed, lol

    Your understanding of the written language leaves much to be desired.

    This is a comic strip very much in the style of humor as The Family Circus. I wonder if Bil Keane called Lynn Johnston asking for his joke back in 1984.
    -
    If you go back to June 2009 and July 2013, you can see that MIchael has been in planes before, so it seems unlikely he would realistically expect to see angels in clouds. Lynn Johnston has regularly shown the Patterson rarely attend church, so Michael’s perspective on angels could make sense for a 9-year-old with such a limited religious education, if this was his first plane ride.
    -
    It always seems odd to me when Lynn Johnston makes a comic strip leaning towards religion, when she has done so many interviews in the past expressing her extreme dislike for religion and the church. I suspect it is a case of knowing your audience and giving them what they want.

    richardwebster: Michael is too young to think along those lines. Also, if this ‘episode’ makes you feel like ‘barfing’ why do you read the strip at all. That is what make them GOOD ! ! ! !

    There is a difference between being religious and being spiritual I do not care for organized religion but I am very spiritual.

    @AZ WIZ

    Considering that this was originally drawn in 1984, it could not be a 777. More likely a 737. (short, relatively fat body, twin engines) Besides a 777 has a much longer body than the 737 (which was known familiarly as “Fat Albert”.
